I don't really remember any remarkable experience from daycamp other than the CIT mountain "excursion." I dreaded that trip like the plague and begged and pleaded for any other way to get out of it and still be a counselor. Pam said "Fat Chance" I had a choice, to go or not to go... I went. And amazingly enough, I learned to rappel (is that spelled right?) and loved it! I learned that powered milk is really "that bad" and I learned to be thankful that my brother encouraged me to take a ziplock full of Cheerios (lifesavers, to say the least). The trip was horrid, but at least now, if I may quote Ron "I can look back and laugh". If anything did stand out, I must say HUME LAKE!!! I miss that more than anything. I loved going there every year and I looked forward to it more than anything. The messages, the games, the themes, the canoes!!! And the year we got coach busses, wow, wasn't that a step up for us and a 7 hour trip... (some things are hard to forget...).
Some things that just jogged my memory....
Eating lunch outside the fellowship hall, and trying to find shade at 12 noon, ya, that was an experience.... "Can we go inside yet? It is hot out here...."
That wonderful gray mat.... OH, and my favorite, "HardWare Wars" I have been trying to find that on video for years!!! Dan Watson, during our CIT VBS week, we had to put on a skit, so we used that as a backdrop, and we dressed him as Princess Lia. We tied two cinnamon buns over his ears and he would eat them on stage in front of the kids during the skit!! I have no idea what the skit was about, I just remember him having those cinnamon rolls and missing lines because his mouth was full. By the end of the week, they were stale and by the end of the last skit, he had eaten the rest of them and "Went home to mother for more..." I don't' think we really had a plan for that skit, I remember winging a lot of it, but making sure we stressed "this" or touched on "that". That I remember.
Movies in the old sanctuary...(Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory) Hide and seek in the dark and locking up Dan Watson in the craft cabinet so he wouldn't be found. Pam making us do exercise on the course at Buena Vista Park before our CIT camping "excursion" (you can tell I just loved this trip)
Some of the team names we came up with for the Theme weeks (all I remember is the "Listermen" for something like Hygiene week for Karen Listerman's team (was that even her name?))
When we got bored, going to Mountain View Park, just because we were bored.... Once the group we took, don't remember which group it was, we wound up taking the kids to Thrifty for ice cream cones, Pam paid for this out of her own pocket, what a cool gesture.
Eating runs (as a CIT) to Fat Boy Burgers (Yum....) As a camper, waiting for my mom to arrive to pick me up. Not that camp hadn't been fun, but I remember waiting for her every day.
Sign in...Sign out... Craft Rec and Bible.... I remember saying my first Bible verse in Bible with Pam as a camper and she gave me the book, "Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe."
Remember Tanya Reyners, quoting the 23rd Psalm and winning that Big Stuffed Animal? (Another Pam thing) I remember doing my first Bible as a Jr High Counselor and thinking "Are these kids listening to me?" Then I remember that they must have been, I did an interactive one where correct answers were rewarded with candy.... Now I think, "Did they learn anything?"
