1983
1983 was the first of 13 years that I worked at Calvary Bible Church Day Camp. I had moved to Burbank at the beginning of February and began attending Calvary three weeks later. Through being in the youth group I heard about Day Camp and signed up to be a Day Camp Counselor.
That was the first year that the camp was split into three smaller camps: Youngers, Olders, and Jr. High. I worked with Stephanie Jones and Carole Lawton in Youngers. Our camp met in the old choir room in the Main Street Auditorium. The room back behind the main stage became our "quiet" room.

I don't know if it was Day Camp's first trip to Sea World, but it was definitely mine. This year I was a S.I.T. (Staff-In-Training) in Youngers working with Carole Lawton and Jon Gee. The Youngers Camp rode on the smallest of the buses. I can't remember what type it was. We drove the Calvary buses down to Sea World. Then we spent the night at a church and took the train up to San Clemente where the buses met us. We had a BBQ and then headed for home. What an undertaking!
- 1985
This year I was a S.I.T. again working with Laura Tooley in Youngers. I think it was just Laura and I working as staff, but someone can feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

Stephanie came back to Youngers this year and we re-vamped the camp. The staff for Youngers was Steph, Laura Dixon (Aleman), Jeff Telkamp, and myself. We would meet at Ron and Steph's place on Palm early in the morning once a week before camp ever started. This is the year we made the new discipline system with warnings and x's.
I think this is also the year that we lost Roger Marton at the beach. As I recall (and it may not be accurate), when it was time to leave, no one could find Roger Marton. He was a kindergartener in our camp. Somehow he had gotten past the flag boundaries and the counselor on watch. Finally, he was found about 4 lifeguard stations down. Actually, as he told it, he went up to the "gardner" and told him he was from "Calvary Bible Day Camp." What a scary experience!
